The Great Escape
Written by Jason Feist

In this modern era of surfing and media, it seems like the concept of adventure and surf travel revolves almost entirely around long winded airline flights, ridiculous baggage fees, expensive boat trips or jungle camps and the comfort of home being a world away. Not to take anything away from chasing perfect waves around the globe, but it sure seems like sometimes we forget about how much fun it is to just venture out and explore your own back yard!

Recently, some of the J7 crew and friends Mike Smolowe and Matt headed off in search of some gold closer to home. After driving for a few hours and a six-mile hike through the Wild West, we were greeted with overhead beach break and nobody around! Now, it was far from perfect and the trek back to the car was enough to make a mountain goat cry! But, after a gallon of Gatorade and reflecting on what an amazing adventure we had, we were all reminded of what it means to be a Surfer and explore our own coastline for the hidden gems!

Here is a slide show of our adventure. We hope you enjoy it and are inspired to get out there and find yours!
